FINISHES:
Natural stone can be polished, honed, flamed or brushed for a distinct appearance. Some marbles and limestones also come in tumbled and antiqued finishes.
- A polished finish has a glossy surface that reflects light and emphasizes the color and marking of the stone finish. It is typically used on kitchen countertops, walls, and floor tiles.
- A honed finish is a satin-smooth surface with relatively little light reflection. It is generally preferred for treads, thresholds and other areas where heavy traffic will wear off a polished finish.
- A flamed finish is a rough-textured surface used mostly for exterior usage.
- A brushed finish is a smoothed flame finish. It feels much smoother than flamed and also enhances the color of the stone.
